12 jurors have been selected for the involuntary manslaughter trial

The actor could face as long as 18 months in prison if jurors unanimously accept that he committed a crime.

A full 12-person jury was selected Tuesday for Alec Baldwin’s trial in New Mexico, where he is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western film “Rust” in 2021.

He could face maximum 18 months of prison if jury is unanimous in determining that he committed the offense.

Baldwin was practicing an action in the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe County on the evening of Oct. 21 2021. The prop revolver he held went off which killed Hutchins 42 and wounded Director Joel Souza.

Baldwin has not pleaded to be guilty. He says Baldwin was unaware that the revolver was containing an actual round, and that it was discharged by accident following his instructions to aim it towards Hutchins.

Baldwin, aged 66, and his legal team scored a significant legal victory on Monday. First Judicial District Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer decided in a pre-trial hearing that Baldwin’s involvement as a co-producer for the show “Rust” is not relevant to the trial. The ruling stops prosecutors from arguing that Baldwin had an exclusive responsibility on the production.

The way to the race was well-paved through twists, turns and ruts.

The initial charges were involuntary manslaughter as well as an enhancement of firearms however, this charge dismissed. The charges were dropped in April 2023, as the prosecution were able to present “new facts in the case.” In January the following year, a grand jury indicted him on an involuntary killing charge. This time, it was for the second time.

Baldwin’s lawyers pleaded with the judge in March to dismiss the case contending that the gun was severely damaged in forensic testing in an FBI laboratory. However, their request was rejected.

Baldwin isn’t the only one involved with”Rust” production “Rust” production who has been charged with criminal offenses.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was the armorer responsible for handling all prop guns in the “Rust” set, was found guilty of manslaughter involuntary in March of this year. The actress has been sentenced to 18 months of prison and is looking for the possibility of a Retrial.

The First Judicial District Court brought hundreds of potential jurors to be questioned on Tuesday. The cameras inside the room were shut off to guard their privacy and identities, however, the rest of the proceedings will be broadcast live.

Four jurors from the alternate pool were chosen on Tuesday afternoon.

Prosecutors questioned prospective jurors on an array of questions that included whether or not they had a gun, an open carry permit, or employed in the film industry.

The trial is set to last about 10 days. It was unclear if Baldwin would testify to defend himself.

Baldwin was at the courthouse Tuesday morning in the gray dress, dark tie with a white shirt, and glasses. Four people were seated on the row behind which included his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, as well as the other brother of Stephen Baldwin Stephen Baldwin. Stephen Baldwin.

Baldwin is three-time Emmy winner for his work on the NBC show “30 Rock” and his record-breaking 17 host stints on the NBC show “Saturday Night Live.” He has been in movies like “Beetlejuice,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “The Cooler,” the latter of which brought his the Oscar nomination.

Correction (July 9 2024, 8:15 p.m. ET) The previous version of this story misspelled the judge’s name. She is Mary Marlowe Sommer, not Summer. The article also misstates when Baldwin’s accusations were dropped just before his re-indictment. They were thrown out on April 20, 2023. Not in April.
