Pistons pick Ron Holland with No. 5 selection at 2024 NBA Draft

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WXYZ) -The number. 5 selection in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons have picked NBA G League Ignite Forward Ron Holland.
In the last season of the NBA G League, Holland averaged 19.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. The 6-foot-8 forward who turns 19 next month, took 44.3 percent of the shots he took and 24, percent on his 3-pointers, and 75% of the free throws during the season. He played in only 14 games from 2023-24 after having surgery to fix the injured tendon in his thumb in February.
“I’m going to continue doing the things that beat the competition, taking to the floor to find loose balls, and creating 50/50 plays. I’m able to defend every position, and (I’ve) developed as a facilitator a lot playing with excellent athletes,” Holland told ESPN when asked what he can provide to the team he drafts.
It’s the third time in a row Detroit has picked fifth on the NBA draft and has the Pistons choosing guard Jaden Ivey in 2022 and guard Ausar Thompson in 2023.
Holland was the very first athlete selected by the President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon which joined the Pistons in the middle of this month, after serving as the general coach for the New Orleans Pelicans for five years. He was officially presented to the local media this week.

The Pistons have not yet hired the head coach for 2024-25 following the firing of Monty Williams, who was the coach who led the Pistons to an unbeaten 14-68 in the last season. Langdon hasn’t yetprovided an exact date regarding when he’ll be able to recruit an assistant coach.
