The Wizards are trading Deni Avdija to the Trail Blazers for Malcolm Brogdon who was the 14th selection in Wednesday’s draft, and the second most favorable of their 2029’s first round selections, as well as two second-rounders.

NEW YORK — The Washington Wizards traded Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers for Malcolm Brogdon , the 14th pick in the 2024 NBA draft, a 2029 first-round pick and future second-round picks, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Wizards will be given Portland’s second-best first-round selection of the three they control — its own along with the selections that belong to Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks – at the draft in 2029, sources told the AP.
The Wizards were able to select Carlton “Bub” Carrington, a guard from the city of Pittsburgh in the 14th overall pick they got through trade. The pair will be French center Alex Sarr, who Washington chose with the no. 2 overall selection.
The Wizards struck a deal on Wednesday night, advancing two spots to buy the Knicks no. 24 pick as well as draft Miami forward Kyshawn George. In exchange the Knicks took the Wizards No. 26 pick, which they took Dillon Jones -as well as the No. 51 pick of the second round on Thursday. The Knicks then traded Jones for Oklahoma City Thunder Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for five possible second round picks.
Avdija, who was the ninth selection of the 2020 NBA draft, is set to sign a four-year five-million contract extension was signed in the fall of last year with the Wizards. He offers Portland the chance to have a two-way wing to play alongside its trio of young guardsShaedon Sharpe, Anfernee Simons, Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe to come forward and whoever is the Trail Blazers take with the seventh pick in Wednesday night’s draft.
Avdija 23-year-old was a star in the past, averaging 14.7 points. He also grabbed 7.2 rebound as well as 3.8 aids for Washington and shooting 50.6 percent overall and 37.6 percentage from three-point range. He won the most Improved Player award, coming in sixth in the poll.
Brogdon 31-year-old Brogdon was averaging 15.7 scores and 5.5 assists in his last season with Portland where he was a player after being transferred by the Blazers by the Boston Celtics as part of the Jrue Holiday trade just before training camp in the fall of. Brogdon was named the NBA’s sixth Man of the year at the age of 20, is playing for his fourth team in four seasons. He is also on an expiring contract worth $22.5 million.
He may be a candidate to be considered for a second time by Washington as the rebuilding process continues under the leadership consisting of Michael Winger and Will Dawkins.
Through this deal, Portland also saves several million dollars off its high-end tax bill for the next season. This is something the rebuilding Blazers required to do to avoid the tax, which they’re now close to doing.
