Xbox Live Goes Down in Nearly Seven-Hour Outage

Xbox Live, Microsoft’s multiplayer gaming and digital media network, was hit by technical issues, with users reporting widespread issues with access.

UPDATE, 7/2, 9:01 p.m. ET: Microsoft said it resolved the technical problems that had knocked out Xbox Live for nearly seven hours. “Users should no longer be encountering issues signing in to Xbox Live and services,” the Xbox Support account on X posted at 8:49 p.m. ET. “Thank you for your patience, game on!”

Xbox Live, Microsoft’s multiplayer gaming and digital media network was down for a long time on Tuesday, when thousands of users complained about issues accessing the service.

Users’ complaints about issues with Xbox Live started to increase at around 2:15 p.m. ET Tuesday according to the monitoring the site Downdetector. At 2:25 p.m. More than 23,000 complaints of outages were submitted to the site over three-quarters of which saying they had difficulties logging in. A few Xbox Live users reported seeing an error message stating that the service was in “scheduled maintenance.”

Other Microsoft-operated programs, like Minecraft as well as Microsoft Store Microsoft Store, also had the highest number of report errors for Downdetector.

Official Xbox Support account on X published on Tuesday, February 25, at 2:15 pm. ET, “We are aware that a number of users have been disconnect to Xbox Live. We are investigating!” The message directed users to the Xbox status page that eventually was updated to state that there was a major issue with the “Account and account” service was announced around 2:07 p.m. ET. “You might not be able sign in to your Xbox account, or be disconnected even while logged in, or suffer from other problems related to it,” the message on the Xbox status page read. “Features that require login, such as many games, apps, and social activities will not be accessible.”

Microsoft requires that users possess an Xbox Live account (which is free to establish) to play online games and also access other games through Xbox console, Windows PC and the Xbox console. Windows PC and Xbox mobile applications.
