MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) – Monson Savings Bank has donated $2,500 to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Presbyterian Church Fire Fund, continuing its commitment to supporting the community.
The church that was historically black founded in 1897 was the victim of an arson attack in December of 2020 that resulted to $2.5 million of damages. Despite this setback, church’s members have been resilient as they continue worship in an interim location.
Monson Savings Bank President & CEO Dan Moriarty condemned the arson and was awed by the church’s response declaring “The actions of the arsonists who targeted MLK Church are despicable. The moment my staff and I were informed of the situation, we were prepared to join with the Church and support it in every possible way. I would like to encourage other people to join us No donation for the Fire Fund is too small.” Moriarty highlighted the church’s positive attitude and quick move to find a better venue to hold church services and to organize fundraising efforts as truly impressive.
