U.S. Soccer Federation Announces Departure of U.S. Men’s National Team Head Coach Gregg Berhalter
CHICAGO (July 10, 2024) – The U.S. Soccer Federation announced today that Gregg Berhalter has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team, effective immediately.
“I want to thank Gregg for his hard work and dedication to U.S. Soccer and our Men’s National Team,” said U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone. “We are now focused on working with our Sporting Director Matt Crocker and leveraging his experience at the highest levels of the sport to ensure we find the right person to lead the USMNT into a new era of on-field success.”
U.S. Soccer Director of Sport Matt Crocker will lead and has begun a search to find Berhalter’s replacement.
“We are deeply grateful to Gregg for his commitment the past five years to the Men’s National Team and to U.S. Soccer,” Crocker added. “Gregg gained the trust of all in our organization and is a key player in bringing together an emerging team and advancing the organization forward. We hope that Gregg every success in his next endeavors and we are confident that he will be successful in the next coaching position.”

“Our immediate focus is on finding a coach who can maximize our potential as we continue to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, and we have already begun our search process,” Crocker said. Crocker.
Berhalter recorded a record of 44-17-13 during 74 games in his time as USMNT head coach, as well as a 29-9-7 records for official matches during his time and led the USMNT to an excellent 2022 World Cup qualification campaign. The year 2022 was the first time he was the first ex-national team player to head coach his team in the U.S. at a World Cup and led the youngest team during the competition to a second-place finish in Group B. They scored five points, following draws with Wales as well as England and a victory against Iran after which they lost in the Round of 16 to Netherlands during the round of 16. Under his leadership and guidance, the USMNT took home their 2021 Gold Cup and two Concacaf Nations League championships.
