New York was on the 10-23rd of September after a 50-22 opening that was marred by slow starting pitching, a weak bullpen and an offense dependent upon Aaron Judge and Juan Soto after injuries to Giancarlo Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo. The third baseman DJ LeMahieu and left fielder Alex Verdugo have been in deep slumps.
A All-Star second baseman when it comes to 2022, 26-year-old Chisholm has been a center fielder for the majority of the last two seasons.
“Excited,” Judge said after the Yankees were able to rally for an 11-8 win in 10 innings against the Red Sox. “He’s an extremely athletic player. You can definitely play him in the leadoff position or anywhere else you want, he’ll definitely increase the length of the lineup. … The guy is a force. He can be placed on the outside of your field. You can put him in any position on the inside of the field. He’s fast. He’s got power.”
Chisholm is hitting .249 with 50 RBIs and 13 homers this season and has the .246 career hitter who has the tally of 205 RBIs and 66 homes over five seasons. Chisholm has 22 bases stolen which is the same as the previous year’s record and just one less than his career-high.
“Very athletic, skilled and speedy It’s like a player who is versatile, you know, is able to play in many different areas,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated. “I’ve only watched him from afar, clearly however, he is clearly a skilled new player.”
Chisholm earns a salary of $2,625,000 following being beaten by Chisholm to the Marlins at arbitration. Chisholm is eligible to arbitrate in the following twenty-fourth and the 2025 season. He could become an independent player following 2026’s World Series.
“It’s always hard to let go of an athlete like Jazz,” Marlins manager Skip Schumaker stated. “He was open to moving from places. He was open to moving between positions. He became more comfortable as you wanted him to be better at different places as well as against pitchers who pitch lefthanded.”
