BEREA, OHIO – As if Wednesday’s news of rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy’ s season-ending knee injury wasn’t bad enough, the Vikings lost No. 2 receiver Jordan Addison to a left ankle injury shortly after the start of a joint practice with the Browns.

“I don’t believe he’ll practice [Thursday],” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said following practice, before speaking to his team’s trainers. “We’re going to get [an MRI] but I think he’s going to be all right.”

Addison was seen with crutches at the hotel where the team is earlier on in the afternoon. The preseason for him is probably over.

The second-year receiver was closely covered by the line of play when an unintentional throw made by Samuel Darnold failed to reach the goal line. Addison was thrown off balance, fell down, climbed up, and attempted to walk, but fell in a recliner until the cart could be taken to the field to transport the player away.

Addison isn’t even the first Vikings player injured on this week in the Browns practice facility. Thayer Thomas who was on the team this year on the Vikings practice team, was injured by an errant pass back to the receiver for a pick-six from Cleveland cornerback Myles Harden.

Thomas was instructed by O’Connell that he should stay in the house until Vikings trainers were taken out to examine Thomas.

“It was a ball a little bit behind him as he was crossing the field, and he might have hit his head or his neck,” O’Connell explained. “Whatever it was we were extremely cautious prior to getting him away from the field. He was able to leave the field by his own initiative. I’m not aware of his availability on Thursday.”

While Thomas was being cared for, O’Connell went into the Browns defensive huddle and spoke with the defenders. He also talked to Cleveland offensive director Jim Schwartz on the field.
