Bernie Sanders’ tough love for the Harris campaign
The storied Vermont senator shares with Playbook what his constituents would like to see from the Harris-Walz campaign and the way he believes they will prevail in November.
Any astute observer knows that Sanders has a notoriously testy relationship with the Democratic establishment. And he’s been sparing in his words of praise for Harris’ campaign so far.
However, the groups in which Sanders has gotten high marks over the years including minorities, young people and progressives were among the weak spots of Biden’s coalition, which prompted many Democrats to call for Biden’s replacement.
In the midst of only 75 days remaining before the election, these the same Democrats are betting on Kamala Harris as well as Tim Walz can shore up the key groups. They’re also seeking Bernie to help.
In that spirit, Playbook Co-author Ryan Lizza along with Deep Dive host Ryan Lizza spoke to Sanders at the CNN-Politico Grill in order to be more transparent of Harris’s campaign. Harris campaign than you’ll get in the DNC speeches.
In their discussion they discussed the possibility that Joe Biden ought to have resigned from the beginning and how Democrats can woo the support of minorities, young people and progressives; as well as areas where Harris’s policies are in his favor and areas where he believes she should move closer to him to be successful.
