FILM classic The Goonies is getting a sequel after 40 years — with its original stars set to return.
Production could start next summer and be completed with the film expected to be being released in cinemas by 2026 or 2027.

Sources confirmed: ” The Goonies reboot has been discussed for quite some time, but finally it’s been granted the green light to proceed.
“The idea is to begin making ideas for the follow-up this summer with a potential release date in 2026 or 2027.
“The first film is important to the cultural landscape, Warner Bros’ know they need to be absolutely right.
“It’s likely that big stars will be back, however the possibilities of how to proceed with the sequel are limitless.
“The team that is going to start work on the project is very thrilled.
“It is still early, however the market for youth adventure is hot, so they are keen to capitalize on this.
“The Goonies is 39 years old now and the idea that they can bring the magic of the film to a whole new audience has the team very excited.”
The 1985 version was based on a novel from Steven Spielberg and was a follow-up to the adventures of treasure hunting of a group of children that came from Goon Docks located in Astoria, Oregon.
Their slogan is “Goonies never say die”.
The film starred Sean Astin and Corey Feldman, both now 53, playing Mikey and Mouth and Josh Brolin, 56, as Mikey’s older brother Brand.
