The audience got their first glimpse at the transformation of Timothee Chalamet to Bob Dylan for the upcoming biopic The Complete Unknownwhich will be released in theatres in December. Is Chalamet have a voice in the movie? If so, does the actor’s real voice heard in the trailer teaser?
A film from Searchlight Pictures, A Complete Unknown is written and directed by James Mangold (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) who wrote the screenplay together with Jay Cocks based on the 2015 novel “Dylan Goes Electric!” written by Elijah Wald.
The film takes place on the streets of New York in the early 1960s. It is a follow-up to “19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts — his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation — culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965,” according to the official description.
The cast is awash with stars, including Monica Barbaro as Dylan’s collaborator and former love Joan Baez, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo — a different artist who was a lover of Dylan in the early 1960s and Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash as Johnny Cash, as well as Scoot McNairy playing Woody Guthrie.
In the first teaser that was released on July 24 The Wonka singer sings a verse in Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” from the album of 1963 The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. Is that the voice of the 28-year-old actor?

When was asked by Collider the month of April in 2023 if Chalamet sang for the film instead of having Dylan’s voice recorded Director James Mangold answered, “Of course!” Chalamet also had guitar and singing lessons in order to portray the character, IndieWire reported.

It’s not the only time Chalamet has shown off his talents as a singer in a movie. The singer sang for the film musical “Wonka” , which had seven musical songs. He was a part of the motion picture’s original soundtrack featuring songs such as “You Never Had Chocolate Like This,” “A World of Your Own,” “Sorry, Noodle,” and “Pure Imagination.”
This actor was a student at the Manhattan’s Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, also performed in the 2019 musical “A Rainy Day” at New York. A video has surfaced that showed the actor’s rising talent singing “Sweet Charity” in a production at LaGuardia. With his prior projects and his musical background fans will likely be seeing more musical performances from Chalamet in the future.
