Ethiopian track star is taken away on a stretcher following a terrifying tumble in the the men’s final of the 3000m steeplechase.

Ethiopian track star Lamecha Girma is recovering after a scary scene in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase final where the current world record holder was taken off the track on a stretcher after going down in the final lap of Wednesday’s race.
A 23 year old Olympian had been battling for third position in the final laps during the event when he tried to climb a hill. His back leg seemed to be caught, which caused him to fall hard while the rest of the racers rushed through him.

Girma was lying in motion on the course on the Stade de France after appearing to strike the top of his head after he clipped the obstacle.
He was treated by a variety of medics prior to the neck brace was put on his neck. Then he was taken off the track by a stretcher.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has issued a positive update on Girma on Thursday.

“We understand he is in good shape and he is okay, he is recovering,” the IOC stated in a statement through Reuters.
Girma has been the 2010 Tokyo Olympics Olympic silver medalist in the steeplechase for men of 3000-meters. He holds the record for the world also, having a the speed that was 7:52.11 which he recorded in Paris in 2023.

Soufiane El Bakkali from Morocco was awarded the gold medal. She was then American Kenneth Rooks for the silver, and Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya for bronze.
