First-time homeowners in Oregon receive grants of $30,000 to purchase homes however, the grants are only available for “people who are not American citizens.”

First-time homebuyers in Oregon are being encouraged to apply for a taxpayer-funded $30,000 grant for down payment assistance – but only non-U.S. citizens need apply.
The Latino-led housing support organization Hacienda Community Development Corporation in Portland advertises the benefit through the Camino a Casa program, which states that it’s “only for people who are not American citizens.”
“Clients collaborate closely with financial counselors and HUD-certified housing experts throughout the the home buying process. In addition to mortgage preparation and financial fitness classes we offer various options to assist with the down payment,” according to the group.
Republican Oregon state Rep. Ed Diehl called the plan “state-sponsored discrimination” and noted that he’s “appalled that the hard-earned, limited tax dollars of Oregonians are being used to prioritize home ownership for certain non-US citizens,” according to the Daily Caller.
The money comes from State’s tax-funded Economic Equity Investment Program, an initiative that seeks to create economic equity for people who are disadvantaged that has awarded the $792,775 loan towards Hacienda.
Republican members of the legislature in Oregon which is a blue state are working to eliminate some of Oregon’s sanctuary laws.
