Floyd Mayweather made light work of John Gotti III during an exhibition fight rematch in Mexico which saw a mid-bout referee switch.
Mayweather’s debut fight with Gotti who is the grandson of New York crime boss John Gotti was a complete absurdity in June 2023 after the fight was ended at the 6th round due to an unruly brawl inside the boxing ring.
Friday night’s match that took place in Mexico City threatened to go to the same path as Panamanian referee Hector Afu left the ring after the second round before being replaced Mexican officials Alfredo Uruzquieta.
Afu was believed to be furious at Mayweather’s protests following the time that a referee declared an left hook thrown by Mayweather American in Gotti to be unlawful.
Mayweather 47 continued to be the dominant Gotti after the fight resumed and the absence of punches fired by Gotti was met with boos by the 22,000 people who gathered at the Mexican capital.
Gotti’s style of attack improved during the fourth round, following the boos of the crowd, however Mayweather never looked tense and was unaffected throughout.
The winner of the fight was not made and the result doesn’t count toward the record of either fighter’s career.
Mayweather quit in the year 2017 and has an undefeated record over his career in 50 fights.
He continues to compete in shows particularly with Logan Paul.
