Men’s Floor Exercise Final
It’s been long of preparation and now Carlos Yulo can finally claim his place as a Olympic champion. It was difficult for him not to shed the tears.
After performing his floor routine and finishing with an unlocked 3.5 turn (15.000) The 24-year-old won his first Olympic medal won by Philippines. It was the first Olympic medal for Philippines in gymnastics, and an second Olympic gold medal for the country in its Olympic history. Yulo was the very first athlete to be awarded the Olympic Gold medal from the Philippines.
“I’m so overwhelmed,” Yulo declared after the event. “I’m feeling grateful for having this medal and for God. He protected me, as always. He gave me the strength to get through this kind of performance and perform this well.”
Yulo defeated Tokyo Olympic Champion Artem Dolgopyat from Israel He improved his score from the qualifying round to five-tenths however, he gave away too many tenths in the landings to keep his crown. Dolgopyat was awarded the silver (14.966).
The Great Britain’s Jake Jarman was in into the finale as the best participant and was impressed by his degree of difficulty, including an intricate three-twisting layout, as well as an incredibly turning double tuck. Jarman, however, could not make with his landings, and was not able to beat Yulo at the final. Jarman placed third (14.933) winning the first Olympic medal of his career.
Women’s Vault Final
Simone Biles is gold again. After having pulled out of the final of vaultat in the 2020 Tokyo Games, Biles is back on the podium for medals she is now a double Olympic champion in vault (she first won the title in the year 2016) and seven-time Olympic gold medallist.
In a position to not compete with Biles the degree of difficulty, the defending Olympic champ Rebeca Andrade was second. The newly minted two-time Olympic gold medallist Jade Carey, placed third, adding another Olympic gold medal in her collection.
Biles participated in the group that was first, soaring the explosive Yurchenko double-pike (15.700) as well as Cheng (14.900) for the average 15.300.
Andrade was flying with her Cheng to beat Biles’ Cheng with a 15.100. She smashed the Amanar in her 2nd vault (14.833) to secure that gold (14.966 Average).
Carey was doing a little bit of a quest — possibly her own individual “Redemption Tour” — following an uncharacteristic error that caused her to fall to finish at the bottom of the podium in Tokyo. Carey was able to perform two of her greatest vaults of her career (14.733 to the double twist of her Cheng as well as 14.466 in the Yurchenko Double twist) with a comparatively small jump on the landing. The average for Carey of 14.466 was enough to win bronze.
“This feels like redemption,” Carey stated. “I really wanted to do better (than Tokyo 2020), especially on vault. I’m just proud of the work I put in and am really proud of what I did here today. This (the medal) feels really, really good.”
