Welcome to the Opinion’s analysis for night 2 of the Democratic National Convention. In this special edition, Times Opinion writers rate the night on a scale from 1-10: zero means that the night was a failure for Kamala Harris, whereas 10 indicates it could result in a huge bump in the polls. The following is what our columnists and contributors thought about the event that included speeches from Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer, Doug Emhoff and Michelle and Barack Obama.

Best Moment

Kristen Soltis Anderson, contributor to the to the opinion columnDoug Emhoff’s description Kamala Harris’s character as “joyful warrior” could be a powerful topic for the coming months.

Binyamin Appelbaum, a member of the editorial board. The State roll call is rocking featuring hip-hop artist Lil Jon as Georgia’s”hype man..

Josh Barro, author of the magazine Very SeriousDemocrats made a short video which offered voters the option of choosing between Harris’s plan to cut the cost of drugs, construct three million homes, and offer more than 100 million Americans an income tax cut and, what she called Donald Trump’s plan to end Obamacare and impose a nationwide sales tax (!) to cut taxes on billionaires. Look for this to be featured in the coming ads.

Charles M. Blow, Times columnistMichelle Obama making direct slurs at Trump. Michelle Obama hasn’t yet gotten over — or might never be able to get over the manner in which Trump was a tyrant to her family. It’s a resentment to be held.

Michelle Cottle Political author on behalf of OpinionBarack as well as Michelle. Their speeches were quite different. She was more incisive than he did but I’m refusing to pick between them. And you cannot create me.
