While much of the nation’s attention has understandably been focused on the White House, one former New Jersey lawmaker thought the president’s decision could be a teachable moment for a certain senior senator from the Garden State.

Retired state senator. Loretta Weinberg, an experienced Bergen County Democrat, posted an email to Sen. Bob Menendez on X, a platform that had been known as Twitter on Sunday evening. The message reads “Sen. Menendez A message to you by the Pres. Biden about how to conduct yourself! I hope you have acknowledged the receipt.”

In the blog post, Weinberg referred the fact that the president Joe Biden withdrew his campaign to re-elect him following weeks of speculation over the next step he would take from party officials.

Do you think Bob Menendez stay in the Senate race?

Menendez, convicted on 16 criminal charges before a federal judge in the month of March He is under pressure to resign for the benefit of the Democratic Party. His fellow senators, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York as well as New Jersey’s Sen. Cory Booker and Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania have all stated it’s the right time to retire. Gov. Phil Murphy called on the Senate to remove Menendez in the event that he does not leave in his own.

After the verdict was announced last week Menendez said he would appeal the decision and stated that he believed “the law and the facts did not sustain that decision.”

NJ Senate election: Can Senator. Bob Menendez remain defiant and remain an independent?

The senator’s Senate seat is currently on the ballot in October, however his current term is set to expire at the closing this year. Menendez was not a part of the extremely contentious primary to win the Democratic nomination in this year’s Senate race, however it is still in the race.

In June, he filed a petitionduring the trial to be an independent candidate. It is expected that the Democratic candidate who will be on the ballot this fall could be Rep. Andy Kim — the Burlington County congressman who has been a vocal criticism of Menendez and declared his candidacy on the same day Menendez was indicted by the Senate. Menendez and Kim are both expected to take on Republican Hotelier Curtis Bashaw.
