Kylian Mbappe has said he feels “no pressure” to perform at Real Madrid as Mbappe scored two goals in a 2-0 win against Real Betis on Sunday.
The second-half brace was Mbappe’s debut scoring a goal during La Liga, lifting Real to second place in the table after an uncharacteristically poor start to the campaign.
“I’ve scored goals all my career, I’ll score goals for sure,” the Frenchman declared after the game according to ESPN. “The goals will be there. The three matches (without scoring) are quite a bit of games for me. However, that’s fine that I’m confident of my team.
“There’s no pressure, it’s football,” He added. “I have my skills. This is my time to become Kylian. I’m not under any pressure. I’m content, I want to be a part of the team.”
The expectations are positive to Madrid this season after Mbappe’s move at the club from Paris Saint-Germain. This year’s Spanish champion – being hampered by injuries to the key stars Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga – is currently four points behind of the defending champions Barcelona after four matches, however, the victory over Betis could be seen as an important step in the right direction.
Mbappe who scored in Real Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Atalanta last month, but was otherwise goalless this season, didn’t manage to create two good chances during the first half when Real tried to find an opening goal.
It appeared that he missed a fantastic chance in the first minute of the second period, before being disqualified, but he did score his much-anticipated first La Liga goal soon after.
Federico Valverde’s fantastic backheel, flicked pass was able to find Mbappe with plenty of space behind the Betis defense. A brilliant, first-time finish made the home team take an 1-0 advantage.
This was Mbappe’s first score at the Bernabeu and Mbappe added his second goal less than 10 minutes later, following a long video assistant review Vinicius Jr. was deemed to have been offside, and then knocked down to the ground by the goalkeeper Rui Silva.
Mbappe was given the task of completing the penalty, and he slipped the ball ahead of Silva Silva, and Real took the win after that, their second place in the league this season.
“I was looking forward to scoring in this legendary stadium, the best in the world, but the most important thing was the win,” the 25-year-old Frenchman who scored 24, in La Liga before getting his first goal, told reporters after the game.
“Following this game at Las Palmas [which ended 1-1and we were certain that we needed to win, and we did that. It was not an easy game, as is every game however, we are Real Madrid and we got the victory in the final.”
Manager Carlo Acelotti called it manager Carlo Ancelotti described it as a “happy day,” adding: “We’re not anxious or dissatisfied. We’re extremely motivated and excited to improve. We were deserving of winning this day and we performed better and had more unity between all of us.”
In La Liga, Barcelona continued its flawless year-long winning streak by securing a massive 7-0 victory against Real Valladolid on Saturday.
Raphina scored an hat-trick for the first time for Barca as well as Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Dani Olmo, and Ferran Torres were also in the frame for Hansi Flick’s team.
