Multiple people have been charged in connection with the accidental overdose death of actor Matthew Perry, law enforcement sources told NBC News on Thursday.
Perry 54 year old was found lying face down on the heated part of the water pool in his Pacific Palisades home on the night of Oct. 28th 2023. Perry was found dead in the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that his death was due to the adversity of the drug ketamine, which has psychoactive properties.
One person was detained within Southern California early Thursday, sources claimed. Federal prosecutors are expected release an indictment later in the day, describing the charges against the person in question and others.
Los Angeles police said in May they had been cooperating with the federal government to find out the origin of the K-amine Perry consumed.
The drug has become a favored party drug for a long time. Recently it has proven promising as a possible alternative treatment for depression. It is now available in a increasing number of clinics offer the treatment as an injection or infusion for various mental health issues.
Perry was receiving an infusion of ketamine to treat anxiety and depression, however the last time he received a treatment was about an entire week prior to his death. The medical examiner concluded that the ketamine found in Perry’s blood “could not be from that infusion therapy” because of its limited half-life.
Keptamin levels present in his body were very highsimilar to the amount used in general anesthesia in surgery according to the medical examiner.
The coroner ruled that his death to be an accident. Factors that contributed to his death included drowning in the ocean, coronary artery diseases and Buprenorphine’s effects which is utilized to treat opioid addiction disorder.
Perry famously well-known for his role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” had spoken out about his long-running battle with alcoholism and addiction to opioids that he detailed in his memoir of 2022, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.” However, at the moment of his demise the actor was clean for 19 months, as per the medical examination report.
It’s not unusual for law enforcement officials to look into (and in a few cases, charge -the individuals who supplied the substances that resulted in an infamous death.
Following the death of Michael Jackson in 2009, his personal doctor, Dr. Conrad Murray, was found guilty of manslaughter by involuntary means for giving the musician the fatal dose of drugs.
