Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama was able to establish himself as the first leader of the clubhouse after making a remarkable 8-under-par score of 63 in the first round of play on Thursday in Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France.

Gold medalist Xander Schauffele is leading in the United States in second place ahead of Matsuyama with a score of 6-under par, just two strokes behind Matsuyama’s lead. Schauffele was able to record seven birdies during round 1 earlier on, will be playing with Viktor Hovland (Norway) and Jon Rahm (Spain) on Friday — one of the strong group pairings in the Paris Games.
