With Dillon on the shelf with his neck injury, the Packers’ running back room on cutdown day houses starter Josh Jacobs , rookie third-rounder MarShawn Lloyd — who’s been dealing with hamstring and hip issues this summer — and Emanuel Wilson . The team also parted ways with backs Ellis Merriweather and Nate McCrary .
Jacobs was a major free-agent signing for the team, Lloyd has plenty of potential and Wilson has been successful during the preseason. However, it’s not impossible to the Packers to acquire an additional back or two this week before the season starts.
The bruised Dillon ran for 613 yards and two touchdowns over 15 games during the season. He did not take part in the final game of the regular season and neither of the Packers playoff games after suffering a neck sting during Week 17. The odds were not in his favor that he’d come back to the Pack However, Green Bay used a uncommon four-year qualification option for Dillon to keep the player.
But, his future after this season appears to be in doubt due to the neck injury he suffered at the age of 26.
