All of the Las Vegas Aces bench rushed onto the court to assist the rookie Kate Martin after she injured her right leg in the lower part of her body against the Chicago Sky.

 

The camaraderie of the Las Vegas Aces was on full display Tuesday evening after the entire team and staff were quick to rally around guard Kate Martin after the rookie sustained a distressing injury to her lower right leg.

Martin fell with 1:09 remaining in the first half of their game with Martin was injured with just 1:19 left in the first quarter of play against Chicago Sky. Aces (16-8) Aces (16-8) were unable to overcome the scoring power that was Cherynny Carter and Angel Reese and eventually fell 93-85 against Sky (10-14). Sky (10-14).

Martin was dribbling on the courts when she seemed to slip, and then clutched her right ankle while her body fell on the floor which she remained on for around a minute in pain and discomfort.

Within a matter of seconds Martin’s team, including all of the Aces bench, were encircling Martin on court as some players utilized towels to protect Martin, a veteran Iowa Hawkeyes player from the cameras.

“I’m gonna take care of my rookie no matter what,” Aces star A’ja Wilson declared in an after-game press conference. “She’s part of our family. She’s our sister, and one we can always trust and rely on however, at the same time, cameras could can be affecting your business, and we don’t want that. we don’t require this. We do our best to guard our peace and her mental well-being and only her emotions.

“We’re going to protect her at all costs because you never (know) what the internet or people may do,” Wilson said.

Martin was then removed from the court by a teammate. Martin was able to return back to her bench in the next portion wearing sweatpants underneath her uniform. She did not return to the court.

Coach of the Aces Becky Hammon said she didn’t have the chance to talk with the medical team and was unable to provide any further details on Martin’s condition.

“I know (she’s) freakin’ tough, so I don’t know how bad it is but she’s a tough cookie,” Hammon stated after the game.

Martin’s injury occurs in the midst of when Martin’s injury comes as the WNBA begins its week-long Olympic break. The Aces will not play until August. 17 when they’ll take on the top team in the table, New York Liberty (21-4).
