This year, NFL players are permitted for the first time to wear Guardian Caps during games. Through the first three games of the 2024 preseason, no Guardian Caps were spotted.
In the evening of Friday, a player of the Steelers was spotted coming from the tunnel, wearing the padding outside of his helmet.
This is the clip of Daniels making his way into the field via SteelersDepot.com. Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports posted an image of Daniels wearing the cap during the game.
The league believes that they can decrease the risk of injury for the wearer and the person whose head is hit by it. In the last year the NFL’s position was that players couldn’t wear helmets during games.
It is yet to be determined what percentage of players decide to wear the Guardian Cap.
While the padding is encased with a shell, which resembles the outer shell that of the helmet end product could appear clumped and uneven. Some will argue that it ruins the visual appeal of the game as it is a visual experience.
A lot of fans are bound to be apprehensive about the appearance at Guardian Caps. The only way to get around this is for manufacturers of helmets to develop new designs that provide the same protection but retains the look and feel of a traditional helmet.
