The 2024 BET Awards took place on Sunday, June 30. They went as expected. The 2024 BET Awards were held at the Peacock Theater, Los Angeles. Taraji Henson hosted the awards for the third consecutive time.
Usher was named best male R&B/Pop artist for the 5th time. He was also awarded a lifetime achievement. It was his night to win both a major award and a career-ending honor.
Usher had a great year. He headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show and scored a crossover hit with “Good Good,” which was a collaboration with Summer Walker and 21 Savage. This song spent 28 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100. Only seven of Usher’s 53 Hot 100 hits have logged that many weeks.
SZA was named best female R&B/pop singer for the second consecutive year. It’s her first back-to-back win in this category. Beyonce was the last artist to do so, winning six consecutive years from 2014-19. SZA’s hit “Saturn”, which was released in December 2022, kept her name at the top of the charts even though she hadn’t released an album since SOS.
Tyla winning the award for best international act seemed a given. South African singer Tyla has had an incredible year. Her smash “Water” reached No. In January, her smash “Water” reached its No. This track was awarded the first Grammy Award in February for best African music performance.
