US volleyball players will compete for Olympic gold following a thrilling five-set victory against Brazil

PARIS – Paris — The U.S. women’s volleyball team is hoping to seek another Olympic gold-medal.

Three years have passed since Team USA won its first gold medal at the competition The Americans are hoping to replicate the feat in the final on Sunday, following a thrilling five-set match with Brazil earlier on Wednesday. It is expected that the U.S. will meet the winner of Italy-Turkey in the final.

After a tense back-and-forth fight during the 5th set, with teams trading points and a few points exchanged, the Americans slowly began to gain ground after they took a lead of 12-8 after a kill from Annie Drews. Brazil scored two points quickly, but following that, it was the U.S. took control, beating Brazil 15-11, when Kathryn Plummer delivered the decisive kill.

Drews had 18 points, and Plummer was first among in the Americans in scoring with 26. Avery Skinner recorded 19.
