This is what’s transpired during Season 6 so far, and more important, why, according to the crew and cast.
How will Season 6 Part 1 begin?
Five episodes in the beginning show Miyagi-Do preparing for the Sekai Taikai and confront any remaining issues that arise between the doctrines from Daniel as well as Johnny.
One of the most significant problems is that just six students are allowed to participate in the team competition in the Sekai Taikai, and two — a girl and one boyare able to participate in the competition for individuals to become world champions.
A review in Episode 4 decides that the six contestants being Miguel (Xolo Mariduena), Sam (Mary Mouser), Robby (Tanner Buchanan), Tory (Peyton List), Demetri (Gianni DeCenzo) and Devon (Oona O’Brien). The only notable exception of the group is Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) and is considered to be one of the best dojo competitors and the Season 4. All Valley champion.
Episode 5 is the final episode of Miyagi-Do’s preparations to travel to Spain to compete in the tournament and includes a series one-on-one battles to decide the captains of the team, and the athletes who will participate for the solo portion of the competition.
In the first scene of the show, Tory briefly meets Kreese who’s been reunited with Kim Da-Eun (Alicia Hannah-Kim) in South Korea to train fighters for the Sekai Taikai. Kreese says to Tory they’ll “never belong” anywhere other than Cobra Kai however, she ejects him. Then, Tory’s mom is diagnosed with illnesses throughout the series and died.
Tory is withdrawn from Robby and makes a new friend with Sam. When she reaches the dojo to face Sam to win the title of team captain She is awash with emotions, hoping to release her sorrow or anger onto the mat.
When the other members of the group find out about her mother’s passing, Daniel, Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) and Robby but not Johnny insist on ending the battle to the detriment of Tory’s desires. The actress quits Miyagi-Do and declares she is quitting.
In the final scene of Part 1 Miyagi-Do makes an appearance at Sekai Taikai with Hawk filling the void for Tory. From the other side of the mat, Daniel and Johnny find themselves confronted by Kreese’s return as players sporting Cobra Kai gis, including Tory and Johnny, make their way to the event.
What is the reason why Tory return her home to Kreese along with Cobra Kai?
Tory’s return from Miyagi-Do in Cobra Kai might come as an unwelcome surprise, but it certainly will be a dramatic cliffhanger when the rest of the team is stunned on the mat. Her partner, Robby, is still fighting with Miyagi Do, and in Season 5 Kim Da-Eun became the source of pain and humiliation on Cobra Kai.
However, List claims that for Tory it was it was the “only option.”
“After not being captain at Miyagi-Do and having no plans for the foreseeable future, you know, no college, she has to turn to the one person who she knows will be there for her no matter what,” List says to TODAY.com.
The person who is referred to as Kreese, List says.
“For some reason he sees something in Tory, and she feels like it’s her only option, even though it’s not, but in that moment, she can’t see clearly,” she states.
Jon Hurwitz, one of the creators of “Cobra Kai,” adds that there’s a sense kind of “purity” in the relationship between Tory and Kreese specifically. In Season 4, at the All Valley championship, he did not give her specific directions similar to what he gave Johnny. ( “Sweep the leg,” anyone?)
“Instead, he told her to fight her own way, win her own way,” Hurwitz claims.
In the event that her world is turned upside down and she returns to her roots.
“She’s going through so much pain, and Cobra Kai is a dojo that at times is able to help you channel that pain to victory,” the instructor says.
However, when Tory is at the event and meets her friends and her boyfriend on the floor, she looks a bit depressed.
“I think it hurt like hell,” List declares of the moment. “I think she regretted it in that moment. You know, you make the decision, but then you see everyone … I mean, I knew even just standing there being the character that it felt really bad.”
There’s an apparent delay in time between Tory leaving the dojo and joining the Sekai Taikai. There’s a scene when Robby attempts to call Tory and she refuses. However, on screen, there’s no more attempts to communicate among Tory and Robby or any other characters from Miyagi-Do.
Buchanan claims the character “didn’t do his job of being, first off, a good friend or a good boyfriend.”
“He did not appear to reach out to express condolences, or anything else. … I don’t really know the circumstances,” he says. “He’s not a good conflict mediator.
“I think he thought that (Tory) probably just needed space, is basically where I think he was coming from, and thought, ‘Well, maybe she just has some space, and we’ll go to this tournament and I’ll do my thing, and then come back and take care of it when I come back,'” He adds.
It’s too early to tell how the drama between teens will play out in the mat.
Part 2 of “Cobra Kai” will hit Netflix on November. 28.
