“Breaking the News” -the documentary that follows the launch, inception and the fledgling successes and challenges of the 19th Newsroom- is available to watch on the internet.
The film is an archive of the newsroom’s debates and reaction to major events in the news that are crucial to the evolution of The 19th including the coronavirus epidemic, the murder of Breonna Taylor, and the reversal of Roe in v. Wade. It also documents the 19th’s internal struggle to reform old-fashioned industry precedents.
“This film is such an honest and heartfelt reflection of the early days of The 19th, and we’re grateful it’s going to be available for even wider viewing,” 19th’s CEO Emily Ramshaw.
